Memecheck – Redefining ‘Pivot’

Posted on 25 May 2011

Some relatively interesting thoughts (here) on how old media can become new media from a “smart, fast, and nimble next generation strategy consulting firm” – their words not mine – called Activate. In short, their advice is to build your own start-up free from existing business structures. Or to put it another way – ‘your existing business is dead – you better check the pockets and invest anything you find in something that works before it starts to smell’. It’s worth a quick flick through the slides if you have the chance.

(And in case you aren’t up with the latest hipspeak, according to Activate the word of the hour is ‘Pivot’ – to change direction when new opportunities demand it.)

Elsewhere in new media land, BMO released a press release about a study they undertook into the penetration of social media in the online investing space (the press release here). It adds next nothing in value and, in an act of blind defiance of new media rules 101, that is all they publish. I’d suggest they call Activate.
