Australian household finances – RBA update for Dec 2010
Posted on 22 March 2010
Knew there was a reason for having a calendar – almost missed the RBA’s update for household finances. Quick update in pictures then:
The good news is that with housing prices climbing through the upper stratosphere, the household balance sheet is enjoying the fruits of leverage.
The bad news is that income isn’t keeping up with the price rises – nor the concomitant increasing debt and interest burden. With interest rates on the rise, can reasonably expect interest to disposable income to track back towards its recent highs – 14% of disposable income on interest – ouch!
